I'm Jason Heisserer
a therapist and yoga teacher in St. Louis
My work as a therapist and yoga teacher feels like an extension of the same mission that inspired me to become a high school English teacher and a school leader. I’ve always been interested in people, in helping people, and connecting people to their best selves and their best work.
MY PAST WORK
I’ve spent my entire adult life and career in St. Louis serving in public school education for 18 years as a high school English teacher, a middle school assistant principal, and a middle school Principal. Then for 7 years, I moved into independent school leadership serving as a Head of School. During this time I also taught as adjunct faculty in the School of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to mentor educators and provide professional development in areas of teaching, leadership, and social justice. I’m proud of this work. But on my 46th birthday, after having led a school through the pandemic, I decided, after 25 years in education, to begin my retirement career early and I went back to school.
BECOMING A THERAPIST
I completed my social work practicum at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at Washington University and worked as a Therapist in Residence and Director of Internship and Fellowship at Terrace House before moving into private practice.
How I work
My style is very conversational, curious, non-judgmental, observational, and candid.
Clients often comment on how I am able to reframe thoughts, feelings, and experiences during our sessions. I am interested in a wide-range of therapeutic points of view and always tailor my work as a therapist to what you need as a client.
My work is most strongly informed by Jungian, Somatic, Psychodynamic, and Interpersonal points of view. My couples work is informed most by the Gottman Method and by Relational Life Therapy.

One to one, I work with:
-

-

I also work with couples and people in non-romantic relationships (e.g., siblings, co-parents, best friends).
